Cummerbunds have a long and interesting history, having been brought to England by the English military in the 1600s. It is a pleated sash that is usually worn with traditional suits at formal events such as weddings, or black or white tie events. It is worn instead of a waistcoat, and can be a more interesting option to go for since it can be worn in essentially any colour, whereas waistcoats have a limited range of colours. Cummerbunds are matched with a bow tie of the same colour and are worn with a tuxedo.
